Middle School and High Schools' Visual Arts Programs at Concord Academy consists of year-long studio courses for grades 6th – 12th.
The principles and elements of art are taught and reinforced, while students are introduced to new art medias, concepts and techniques. Major artists and art movements are introduced.
Enthusiasm for the Fine Arts is encouraged and the classes are designed to be an enjoyable and spiritually enriching experience.
The program is structured to help students in developing their creative thought processes, critical thinking skills and problem solving abilities. Students are encouraged to seek God’s will in further developing creativity.
A Message from Visual Arts Director, Lauren Phillips
Welcome to Concord Academy Visual Arts Program. We are passionate about art. God is the ultimate Creator and He has given each of us a natural and even supernatural desire to create as well. He is the ultimate artist. We want to spark passion for creative arts in our students. We primarily do that through the making of art, but we also stoke that passion by learning about new artists and different art forms. It is such a joy to see every individual student’s artistic expression take shape. The last thing we want is for art to feel like an “add-on” course. We see art central to your child’s overall education. Dostoyevsky said that “beauty will save the world.” He may just be right.
